Allopathic Medicine: A system in which medical doctors and other healthcare professionals treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery.

Assessment: The process of collecting data about a person’s energy field to make decisions about energy healing interventions.

Attunement: In Reiki,the channeling of higher level vibrations from Master to student.

Aura: The name for the energy that surrounds all living things. In the human being, there are seven major layers.

Balancing: Enlarging (or shrinking) the chakras so they all are the same size.

Block: In the energetic sense, a build up of energy in a particular area that stops the natural flow of vibration.

Body Scan: The energy practitioner holds hands over the body to sense areas of pressure, heat or coolness to determine the balance of the auric system.

Centering: Being fully present, connected to self.

Chakra: Sanskrit word meaning spinning wheel. An energy vortex located at various points of the body affecting various aspects of consciousness. The cone shaped wheels are wide at the the opening on the outside of the body and narrow at the base extending out front and back of the body, except for the Crown which spins upward and the Root which spins downward.

Clearing: Releasing negative thought-forms and etheric cords from our chakras.

EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique:This energy work is often referred to as tapping. It is under the registered trademark of Gary Craig  from the discoveries of Dr. Roger Callahan. It follows the principles of acupuncture without the needles. It can be most easily understood as meridian therapy.  In order to teach it, you must take a class that is taught by a certified EFT Trainer.

Etheric Unruffling: A fifth level intervention as taught by Rod Campbell from Australia, using hand movements to work in the etheric template.

Full Body Connection:  A treatment in Healing Touch that not only connects the major chakras, but includes the major body parts such as kidneys, eyes and ears. The practitioner connects the energy until it is running smoothly.

Hands in Motion: This energy work moves hands over an area of the body that has indicated that it needs to have energy broken up around it.

Hands Still: The practitioner holds hands about four inches above the body at a point that requires energy.

Healing Code of Ethics: Mindful practice to abide by all applicable local, state, and national laws governing their services. Healing Touch providers do not diagnose, prescribe, or treat medical disorders and use language that clarifies this. Providers make referrals to other health care professionals as appropriate/needed at all times respecting the progressional status of other health care practitioners.

Healing Touch (as defined by the Healing Touch Professional Association): An energy therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart centered and intentional way to enhance, support and facilitate the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual health and self-healing. Healing Touch utilizes light or near-body touch to clear, balance and energize the human energy system in an effort to promote healing for the whole person; mind, body, spirit.

Healing Touch Certification (HTC): Provides a board certified accredited credential for Healing Touch Certified Practitioners (HTCP). This is accomplished through a peer review packet application and proficiency exam.

Healer: A person who has developed the self in such a way as to positively influence the journey of the client. Truly, we are all healers of self, for healing comes from within.

Healing: The process of becoming whole; mind, body, spirit.

Intuit: The ability to perceive beyond the five senses.

Kahuna: Someone who has, by lineage of birth, blood or initiation, become the teaching and the teacher of Lomilomi. (Hawaiian energy healing). The wisdom is fully integrated in the exemplary life and body if the kahuna.

Layers of the aura: Etheric, emotional, mental, astral, etheric template, celestial, ketheric; each corresponding to a chakra.

Meditation: Raising vibrations through calm and focused energy in order to receive higher levels of consciousness to guide one’s life.

Non-doing: The practice of refraining from reacting to internal and external events and situations; meditation.

Lomilomi: The Hawaiian term for touch-therapy body work, or the sacred shift within you when inspired by a trained Lomilomi healer, raising your vibration and all that is around you.

Open: In an energy world, a chakra is open when it spins freely in a 3-6 inch spin when assessed by a pendulum. It is open because it is not filled with energetic debris.

Newtonian Physics: All the universe is a machine with moving parts and space and time are absolute.

Penduling: Use of a dangling object external to the healer’s field into the client’s field to determine energy flow.


Qi: The animating current of life

Quantum Touch: The use of life-force energy, the love vibration, hand techniques, breath, meditation, resonance and entrainment (vibrations) to raise practitioner’s and the client’s vibration to promote self-healing within the client.

Reiki: A way of life with roots from Tibet, that helps us reconnect with our inner selves to balance our lives spiritual, physically, emotionally and mentally and to help others balance themselves. Reiki is passed through attunement and training classes.

Theory of Relativity: Time and space are interrelated, space-time. Space and time are relative and not fixed.

Tree Meditation: Taking the energy up to the branches and staying there a while, then moving down to the trunk, roots and ground. A terrific 15 minute meditation for grounding.

Unruffling: A basic energy healing technique in which the practitioner’s hands brush over the congested area until it feels cleared.

Universal Energy Field (UEF) or Human Energy Field (HEF): An energy field that surrounds all living things. It includes light that pulsates and can be sensed with higher perception. It has an organizing effect on matter and builds form.
